The end of the year is ROUGH. We are jammed packed with holiday parties, birthdays and are straight up eating and drinking for a month straight. It took a toll and my GOSH I felt it, I could see it and it wasn’t looking so pretty. So instead of jumping on some rigorous workout regimen and cutting out all things that I love I took a different approach this time.
I enlisted the help of a dear friend Ashun Wren who is the fittest Mama I know. She keeps me beyond accountable and she never says I can’t have anything. Everything in moderation.
The first major change that I made was I switched to intermittent fasting. I do the 16/8 fast. So I eat my last meal typically around 5:30 with the kids and I won’t eat again until the next day at around 11. I have found that sticking to as close as this as possible has been a great jumpstart. I really am not a late night snacker, so that part isn’t hard. I get up super early, so the mornings are the hardest. If I find myself STARVING, I will break the fast– I’ll eat a couple of egg whites of a hard-boiled egg, or a little piece of chicken. Something packed with protein. If I chose to forgo the bite, I find myself desperate and I’ll eat something not great. It’s not all the time, but when it happens, it happens.
Another change that I made was not jumping on the coffee train first thing in the morning. I was a coffee addict. I love love coffee but I realized I was drinking too much. I now start my day with a glass of water. I usually have a cup of water from the night before, and whatever is leftover, I’ll drink that. I find that my body is so parched from the night, it feels good to get hydrated first thing. I also start my day off with warm lemon water. Not only has this change has done wonders for my body, but my skin is so much better.
Apple cider vinegar has so many benefits, I started incorporating that into my morning routine as well. Some of the benefits of ACV is it helps lower blood sugar, helps heart health, balance your pH levels, improves digestion and lastly helps reduce belly fat. It tastes HORRIBLE, but the benefits far outweigh the shot every other day.
I’ve also added collagen peptides to my coffee– my one cup of coffee. I love Vital Proteins. It mixes great and doesn’t have a taste. I did try their collagen coffee creamers and I am not a fan. If I’m allowed one cup of coffee a day, I’m going to use my regular creamer and dump a scoop of collagen peptides to it. 🙂
I’ve cut out, for the majority, all processed food. I mean, I still have the occasional french fry, chips or a cookie BUT I’ve really been trying to enjoy the taste of REAL food.
I’ve been on this routine for just over two months now and I’ve seen some amazing results. I just now starting to get a good workout routine and I’m going to keep this up. If ya’ll are looking for the start to the rest of your life, Ashun is your lady. She is currently taking on a few more clients.
