I can guarantee that I am not the only Mom that this happens to. Out of my husband and I, I’m definitely the one with the shorter fuse. I recognize that and surely that’s half the battle. I get it.
I do my very best to give chances, I typically tap out at 3. That’s a total of 9 chances in one round for all three kids… After that, I go off my rocker.
I think back to the show, SuperNanny, and at first, I make sure that they see me and I get on their level and say “you’ve got to clean up or wash your hands..” I really really try to teach my kids the importance of gaining one’s attention because they can’t be hooting and hollering demands. I think that is the root of the problem. My kiddos say “Mom” a million times while I’m having a conversation and they’re saying I’m ignoring them. I try and tell them that just because you say my name doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop what I’m doing and chat with you. I guess the second problem is patience. Sigh.
I ask again and again, louder and louder at each juncture and then well, Mama breaks. How do I get my kids to listen on the first try? Does this even exist? I get so extremely frustrated. I am completely the opposite. You tell me and it’ll get done and in a timely fashion. HOW do I get my kids to do this?
