Adjusting to the summer schedule is no easy task. While Brendan and the girls are in full-fledged summer vacation mode, Travis and I still have our regular routines– work, preschool and all things in between. This happens to me during every school break, but summer is a doozy for me! The shuffle between chores, routines (or lack of) and just getting moving in a timely fashion is a nightmare.
The big kids have gotten in a habit of watching their tablets in the morning, probably until about 8:30. The funny thing about this is, I think they’re SO excited to get up and have a slow and easy morning, they get up earlier than they do when school was in session. WTF. I have got to switch it up. The transition from the morning laziness to breakfast is a struggle. I mean every transition is super slow and I personally feel like if there is a long waiting period, the kids get ornery and well, things sometimes take a turn.
I realized that since the kids aren’t in camp for the majority of the summer, they need a lot of snacks, like more than I could have ever imagined and they need a lot of activity. So for the summer months, I’m at the store more than during the school year!
I’m pretty envious that B gets the summers off– especially if they’re at the beach and I’m cooped up in an office. I know that the girls appreciate getting to hang out with their Dad since during the school year he’s quite busy. Also feeling quite fortunate that they’re able to hang out and relax before the school year shuffle begins.
